Although they are sharks and can look intimidating, they don’t pose any real threat to humans. Whale sharks get their name from their massive size-they can grow to 40 feet and weigh as much as 47,000 lbs-which rivals some whale species. Since their movements are tied to the moon cycle, divers can expect to encounter sharks starting 2 days before the full moon and staying for a week between the months of March and June. However, during the full moon, whale sharks ascend to the water’s surface to feed on fish spawn and tiny plankton. Most of the time, these giants are too deep in the water and divers can’t access them. Whale shark season revolves around the full moon. These gentle giants can be found in Gladden Split, just off the coast of Placencia in the springtime, with the best chances of being able to dive with them in April and May. Every bottle of Gray Whale Gin supports Oceana, protecting and restoring the world's oceans, so that Gray Whales will continue to make that epic journey for another 30 million years.Whale shark season is a popular attraction for divers in Belize.

Looking out past McWay Falls at the turquoise sea we saw a Gray Whale and it's calf on their own road trip up North. We were humbled by California's stunning beauty, feeling lucky to be on that rocky coast, surrounded by ancient trees, and the endless blue of the Pacific Ocean. It's a simple notion that we cooked up on a camping trip to Big Sur. Here at Gray Whale Gin, we believe a lovingly handcrafted spirit brings people together for good times, and while we're together we can also do some good in the world.
